Here's the good news: there are plenty of state and local elections that could use the same attention and energy we spend on the federal ones -- and those offices make a huge difference in your daily life if you like, say, having paved streets, a sewer system, or a library.
Plus, if you want better candidates at a statewide/federal level, you need to support them at a local level so that they can build the experience/team to help them succeed as they move further up.
Not to be all Tracy Flick about it all but throw some of your time and dollars at the offices that get nearly no love, especially when the presidential race is so ... fraught. If nothing else, it gives you something to do that isn't watching whatever the fuck is happening on the TV and editorial page. And at a local level, your help will make a huge difference.
This feels increasingly like the promotion of agist policies in our country. President Biden is not young. He should not apologize for that. If anything, this should galvanize the elderly in the United States to support Joe Biden.
All my life I have witnessed how our society treats older people. Often they are not given proper medical care as they are seen as a poor use of resources- unconscionable! Their knowledge and wisdom is often disregarded as they may not speak loudly or quickly enough for your poor, young, smooth brains to hang in there for. So sorry! I know I’m just a youngster of 57, but allow me to drop a dose of reality in your tea: the Democrat party has never really needed an opposing party; democrats are happy to eat their own, thanks, and your doing it now. You may primary your incumbent, however primaried incumbents tend to win the primary anyway and they then they tend to go on to lose to their opponent in the general election. So rather than go through all this candidate searching, you could save time and $ and just hand the democrat nomination to Trump now. There is not a shining, galvanizing candidate to be put forward with only 4 months left until the election. If there were, that person would already be up front and making news. And please don’t say Kamala Harris. Lastly, Joe Biden is doing a very good job as president in a time that is as crappy as any in US history. I do not see the benefit in handing the election over to the Republicans because the press has decided that he is too old. It is the press that needs wisdom and discretion. I’d hate to see the country lost to a slow news day. Thanks for listening- even if you had to turn up your hearing aids or adjust your glasses. Rock on, olds!

I agree and add only that I am heartbroken. And, by the way, there are wonderful dog videos on twitter.

Thank you, Sam.
I was thinking more about a stuffed and mounted ferret, but a can of creamed corn will work...
Thank you Sam, for voicing what so many of us are thinking. Makes it all a little less scary.
How about Harris and George Clooney? Everyone loves George and Kamala and Amal could set everything right.
Hippos will tear you apart! That’s scary. As scary as another tRump presidency.
I waw going to suggest Bernie, till I did the math.
