Excellent job, Bee. I have a bag of milk in my fridge right now, and some of the other stereotypes are true. Overall, you nailed the part that Americans tend not to know a ton about us. But bless their cotton socks are they keen to learn when it's presented. I write a lot about Canada as a Canadian, and America as a Canadian, and the American audience here has been wonderful. And they've apologized more than I have lately 😆.
Here's how to understand healthcare in Canada. Imagine if one health insurance company bought out all the other ones and now has a complete monopoly, and all the advantages and efficiencies that come from being a monopoly. Now imagine that this company is run by Dolly Parton, and thus taking care of everyone is the prime mission, profits aren't important, executive salaries and bonuses are not important, policyholder concerns take precedent over shareholder concerns. Does that help explain why we spend fewer $ per person than the US, and have lower rates of infant mortality and maternal mortality? And a longer lifespan?
Having lived in Canada for two years in my 20s, I think you did a fine job. Another thing I’d point out is that exercise and sports are much more prevalent for the average person in Canada - everyone I met there did some sort of sport for fun, and did much more regular exercise than here in the US. It was just baked in from an early age.
We attended your show in Chicago, and laughed our butts off (I literally almost fell off of my stool). As lesbians, though, don’t forget that we go through menopause, too, so some non-cis jokes or references would be appreciated. Great show, and VERY relatable (unfortunately!).
I knew how to say it, having introduced my children to the McKenzie Brothers decades ago. :-) While most of my peers were swooning over SNL, I was watching SCTV.
